Last summer, the Health Sciences Musical (HSM) team made the difficult decision to pursue the daunting task of planning for an online show. We knew early on that HSM 2021 would be its own entity — a production unlike any other — and a completely different ball game. Throughout the year, the incomparable resiliency, dedication, and creativity of students who contributed as part of the executive team, cast/chorus, band, musical arrangers, writer’s group, and more ultimately brought the show to life. Against all odds, our team pulled off the unimaginable and premiered the two-and-a-half-hour show, “BHScreentime”, on May 14, 2021. Despite the online format, the show retained the elements of an in-person experience: exhilarating musical numbers, faculty cameos, and a space (Zoom call and the comments section on YouTube Live) for viewers to spread love and positive energy with others.
We are deeply grateful for everyone in the BHSc, Hamilton and McMaster communities, and beyond who attended, donated, and/or engaged with HSM in any capacity this year. The support and sense of community has allowed HSM to raise over $3000 for two incredible causes: Culture for Kids in the Arts, which provides arts opportunities for youth, and the Bursary in Support of the Black BHSc Community, which aims to reduce the financial burden for prospective Black students of the BHSc program.
Thank you for tuning in to HSM 2021 (the show is available to view anytime on the Health Sciences Musical’s YouTube channel), and watch out for what HSM 2022 has in store!
